CHALLENGE
We had to make a data tool that makes it possible for municipalities all over Europe to create an overview of their waste related data. It also allows for comparison between municipalities and they can learn from case studies on certain policies.
OUTCOME
The final outcome of this six month long project is a data tool that works as a normal website. This website enables municipalities that work together with Zero Waste Europe to monitor their own data, compare their data with other municipalities and learn from proven case studies. This to make sure that waste management improves all across Europe.
PROCESS
QUARTILE 1
The project started with us doing lots of research about all the problems and stakeholders related to waste in Europe. Together with Zero Waste Europe we sat down to come up with a plan for the coming quartiles. Since this datatool is quite a technical project we figured it would be best to make a mock-up design.
QUARTILE 2
In this quartile we figured out what functions the tool should have by interviewing municipalities. We started working and brainstorming on what these functions should look like.
QUARTILE 3
During this quartile we actually made the mock up and showed it to municipalities to receive feedback on it. This feedback was used to further improve the tool. We also made a data template for the municipalities to fill in their data. A blueprint with explanations of all the functions together with the mock-up will be sent to a data scientist who will actually realize it and launch it on the website of ZWE.
